2024 Behavioral Neuroscience Syllabus

Behavioral Neuroscience is a graduate level class, which advanced undergraduates will be allowed to take for undergraduate credit.

Background in one or all of the following:
neurobiology, neuropharmacology, physiology (comparative, mammalian, environmental), biochemistry, or endocrinology
is important for this class. If you have questions, talk to Dr. Summers.
BIOL 432: An advanced course on integrative neuroscience, focusing on the neurocircuitry, neurotransmitters and modulators, and neuroendocrine actions necessary to produce behavior or environmentally relevant neural function. This course will include description of the integrative mechanisms that produce circadian rhythms, neuroendocrine reflex, sexual behavior, addiction, anxiety, learning, aggression, depression and social hierarchy.

BIOL 732: Based on the original research literature, this advanced course on integrative neuroscience focuses on the neurocircuitry, neurotransmitters and modulators, and neuroendocrine actions necessary to produce behavior or environmentally relevant neural function. This course will include description of the integrative mechanisms that produce circadian rhythms, neuroendocrine reflex, sexual behavior, addiction, anxiety, learning, aggression, depression, social hierarchy, and other behaviors. Collecting and integrating information to describe a specific behavior is included.
